Prioritizing Well-being of Oregon's Nursing Professionals
Despite investments in wellness programs and resilience trainings, the stress on Oregon’s nursing workforce continues to grow. What if the challenge isn’t a lack of effort—but a need to rethink the approach?
The RN Well-Being Project, led by the Oregon Center for Nursing (OCN), is a statewide initiative focused on identifying and addressing the root causes of nurse burnout, emotional strain, and workforce instability. Our work moves beyond individual interventions to focus on the systems, environments, and structures where nurses work.
What We're Doing
Through statewide research, nurse-led insight, and collaboration with employers and healthcare leaders, the RN Well-Being Project is helping organizations:
Understand the difference between burnout and emotional strain
Recognize where personal resilience strategies fall short
Access tools and resources that support both individuals and systems
Implement change that’s grounded in evidence—not assumptions.
The RN Well-Being Project began with early support from state and federal partners. Today, it continues as a platform for shared learning and long-term change. While grant funding has concluded, the work—and the impact—move forward. Whether you’re leading a care team, guiding policy, or navigating your own experience in nursing—this work is for you.
