Removable Stressors in Healthcare Workplaces

Well-being challenges are unique to each work environment, with systemic barriers that can be mitigated or removed entirely. We call these Removable Stressors. The RNWB Nurse Research Committee identified four domains that organizations can improve to strengthen the well-being of the nursing workforce. The focus was to address occupational suffering often resulting from unintended barriers in the workplace and a lack of efficiencies in documentation, policies, and procedures that lead to burnout.

Where can nurse leaders remove stress at work?

Work System & Labor Model Redesign

Strengthen work systems and labor models to improve well-being and support teams by safeguarding caregiver well-being through person-centered work environments.

Workplace Well-being & Safety Infrastructure

Build healthy workplace structures through accessible resources, tools, and environments where seeking help is encouraged and supported by the organization.

Healthy Leadership Driving Healthy Culture

Cultivate a wellness culture by encouraging leaders to model and encourage growth, creativity, and collaboration for nurses throughout the organization.

Admin Processes & Professional Practice

Support nurse satisfaction and professional practice by streamlining administrative processes to reclaim time for providing care and other patient-centric duties.
